Team

Spring 2017 Session March 13- May 23

Team allows its members to maintain a strong commitment to building solid circus and ensemble performance skills while having time for solo and duo work.

During the school year, Team meets twice a week on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:00 P.M to 7:30 p.m. From 5:00-5:30 p.m. students are given 30 minutes of individual choice time to be self directed and work independently. From 5:30-7:30 p.m. younger and older students will work together building a performance ensemble that will perform in and around Chicago throughout the year.

All Team members are required to attend at least 70% of all practices as well as to “give back” at least 25 hours per year to CircEsteem.

In order to join Team, individuals must be actively working on Level 2 skills in three core areas: Juggling, Tumbling/Acro, and Performance/Clown. A detailed description of the skills required can be found in the document entitled CircusTeam – Skills Requirements. All of CircEsteem’s program offerings support the development of these core skills in some form or another.

Members of Team receive highly-skilled circus instruction and coaching, scholarship and work opportunities (both teaching and performing), travel opportunities, (regional, national and international), tutoring help, chances to see professional performances and participate in workshops led by specialists, media appearances, professional photography, college application and resume-boosting experiences, as well as regular performance appraisals / feedback.

Members of Team are expected to “give back” at least 25 hours per year. There are a variety of ways in which one can do so including:

• Mentoring younger students

• Hanging posters for shows (or similar publicity measures)

• Volunteering for gigs and workshops

• Serving as a tutor/teacher at HomeWork & CircusWork

• Directing the Teen Show

Membership on Team is a privilege, not a right, and is granted to individuals who both demonstrate a strong commitment to working hard and being members of the CircEsteem community and also have attained a high level of competency in multiple circus disciplines, both as soloists and as partners. Members of Team serve as role models and ambassadors for CircEsteem.
