NEW Class Offering starting June 1st! "Tumble 2 Dive"
Because diving is a gymnastics sport where you land in water, Elite Athletics now offers a Tumble 2 Dive class with the opportunity to join a competitive Club diving team called the Liberty Diving Academy coached by World Team Member Tori Wood! Go to ~ https://www.facebook.com/LibertyDivingAcademy/
What it takes:
Diving students learn and train in the gym at Elite Athletics. To make their training as safe as possible, participants learn safe tumbling skills and diving skills through the use of the trampoline, tumble track, pit, and spring floor. Skills will range from basic jumping drills and conditioning to form a solid base for diving. They will also work on advancing forward rolls to front/back tucks and eventually double fronts/backs into the pit.
Diving students also learn and train at Liberty University's pool transferring skills from the gym to the pool. Divers will start with jumps and basic dives off the side of the pool and advance their skills onto the 1 Meter and 3 Meter springboards. Competition will be an opportunity for divers as their skills progress.
Coached by LU's Tori Wood! Register in this portal by going to Classess > Tumble2Dive and enjoy your first class for FREE!
About the coach:
Tori will be starting a tumbling class for LU Club divers. She started gymnastics very young and became a level 10 gymnast who went to Nationals. She competed in diving while also participating in competitive JO. Tori has many years of coaching and is qualified to teach any of our classes including Preschool, Xcel, Tumbling and JO to level 10. She has become a Champion diver and recently trained for the Olympics in Wisconsin.
Former SEC champion diver and USA National Team member Tori Lamp Wood was named the first full-time diving coach in Liberty swimming & diving history, on April 12, 2017.
For the previous two years (2014-15 and 2015-16), Wood had been a diving coach at Homestead High School in Mequon, Wis. In addition, she has spent nearly three years as a gymnastics coach at Lafleur's Gymnastics Club. Wood served as a diving coach for Tennessee Diving Club in Knoxville from 2009 through 2014, concurrently with her All-American diving career at Tennessee.
Wood, a former Level 10 gymnast who won a junior national diving title at 17, is the only woman in the world who performs an arm-stand double back somersault with 2½ twists, which carries a degree of difficulty of 3.5. It's the same dive that 2012 men's Olympic 10-meter gold medalist David Boudia does. Most women perform the dive with only 1½ twists.
While competing at Tennessee, she won platform diving at the SEC Championships three times (2012-14). Additionally, she earned seven All-America awards, with a pair of NCAA national runner-up finishes. Wood was named SEC Diver of the Year in 2012 and 2013, while earning CSCAA National Diver of the Year honors as a junior.
She also competed for Team USA from 2008 through 2010 and 2012 through 2015. Highlights from her international career include participating at the World Championships in both 2008 and 2013. She was a Junior National Champion in 2008 before winning the title of 2009 High School National Champion.
Wood graduated with a bachelor's degree in recreation sport management with a concentration in therapeutic recreation from Tennessee in May of 2014. When time permits she enjoys video editing and the piano.
